NHS staff and members of the wider 'NHS Family' can access NHS Core Content resources, which include key biomedical and nursing databases. The databases are hosted by DIALOG, an international database provider.

    A unique database covering the fields of complementary and alternative medicine. Consult AMED for journal articles on physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, holistic therapies, psychotherapy, homeopathy, diet, herbalism, rehabilitation and other alternative therapies.

    The premier database for the support of education, research, practice of UK nurses, midwives, health visitors and related staff.
  • CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature)
    Producer - Cinahl Information Systems , USA
    Coverage - 1982 to date
    A comprehensive and authoritative international source of information for nurses and allied health professionals and others interested in healthcare. Seventeen disciplines are covered including physical therapy, speech and language therapy, audiology, optometry, occupational therapy and dietetics.

    Coverage - 1983 to date
    Health services management and administration, with the emphasis on the British National Health Service, including policy, planning and finance, nursing and primary care, mental health, environmental health, public health and social services.
  • EMBASE (Excerpta Medica Database)

    Coverage - 1974 to date
    A major biomedical and pharmaceutical database covering clinical and experimental human medicine, pharmacology, toxicology, drug research, drug abuse, forensic science, health policy and management, medical devices and alternative medicine. The database covers the whole world's biomedical literature, whilst concentrating in particular on European sources.

    Coverage - 1979 to date
    Policy and management of health and social care services in the UK. Core subjects include National Health Service (NHS) management, social care, health inequalities, urban health and regeneration, race and health, partnership working, primary care, mental health, public involvement, and workforce development in the NHS.

    Coverage - 1950 to date
    A highly respected bibliographic database for international biomedical literature. A vast source of information on the biomedical sciences including clinical medicine, anatomy, pathology, environmental health, occupational medicine and many other related subject areas.
  • PSYCINFO
    Producer - American Psychological Society
    Coverage - 1806 to date
    Provides extensive international coverage of the literature of psychology and allied fields. Covers psychological practice and research, as well as the related clinical, social and biological disciplines. PsycINFO includes information on drug and behavioural therapy, nursing, education and social processes. The major emphasis is on original research, whilst literature reviews, surveys and discussions are also covered.

  • MARTINDALE (The Complete Drug Reference)
    Producer - The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
    Coverage - Current
    The reference source of choice for practising pharmacists and physicians since 1883, when it was first published. In addition to drugs and medicines, the database provides information on investigational and veterinary drugs, vaccines, vitamins, toxic substances, diagnostic agents and medicinal gases. Disinfectants and pesticides are also included, making Martindale an invaluable source in all branches of pharmaceutical science.

    PubMed provides access to citations and links to full-text articles from the biomedical literature. This database is free to use and does not require anAthens username or password.
