Medical Staff

As one of the busiest District General Hospitals in the country, we can offer a wide and varying experience in all kinds of medicine.

Across several different sites, we offer acute, general, medical, surgical, maternity and elderly services. And we’re particularly proud of a new service at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre, which is the biggest development in the hospital’s history. You might also be interested in our other new developments – a £40m surgical centre, a £20m women’s and children’s unit ,an £8m urgent care centre and a new state of the art Endoscopy Centre. The Trust is also a Tertiary Haematology Centre offering a wide range of new Treatments to the population of Lancashire and South Cumbria. But, whatever your specialism, we believe there are many great reasons why you’ll want to join us.

The Trust is heavily involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. Foundation and Specialist Trainee posts, under the purview of the North Western Deanery, make up a large element of the junior and middle grade medical workforce. Student Doctors following Liverpool University School of Medicine’s new and innovative medical course, are resident at the Trust, in their fourth and fifth year study for the whole academic year.

Consultant medical staff are fully engaged in all aspects of the teaching, assessment and supervision of the resident students and doctors in training. This includes the provision of tutorial, teaching on ward rounds and clinics, PBL facilitation, examination of student doctors in formative and summative assessments and clinical/education supervision and assessment of the post.

Our Clinical Librarian Service helps to ensure that all practice and education is based on current best evidence. The Clinical Librarian is able to carry out expert literature searches to support education, research, audit and clinical improvement.

Most importantly, you’ll always have our support – and that of our dedicated administrative staff.

We’re always looking for new ways of working, to provide innovative and effective care. And we’d like to hear your opinion. You can also share your opinions and experiences in our regular clinical and multi-disciplinary team meetings.
